Education
Sol de Primavera especially supports the schooling of the children through special promotion programs. There are a lot of children in the centre who have never had the chance to visit a secondary school and others who have not graduated from primary school. In the “Escuelita” (project intern school) they have the opportunity to finish school and to obtain a state-approved certificate. Furthermore, we enable the children to go to public primary and secondary school through scholarship. Some families simply can not do without the financial contribution that the children bring to the family income and in such cases we have often succeeded in decreasing the child’s working hours to coincide with the schooling.
The project offers alternative ways for the children to use their time, for example by playing educational games like chess and dominos and completing puzzles or mathematical games, as well as offering computer courses. Our methodology of teaching is alternative and builds on the necessities of a child’s development. We communicate a way of treating each other with respect, love and devotion and teach such virtues within safe surroundings so that the children can achieve an autonomous demeanour in their everyday life.
With the intention to rediscover their own cultural background, we teach the children how to play traditional instruments and folkloric dance, a dance and music group has hence come into being and both enjoy regular practice and performances. Several times a week the children also do sports together and especially enjoy playing volleyball, soccer and skipping in the courtyard.
