Because of the lack of basic healthcare elsewhere, Sol de Primavera provides the medical centre “Sol Salud” where there is a doctor, a nurse and a dentist. They offer the following services to the population of the surrounding slums: general medicine, gynaecology, dentistry and a laboratory. The patients pay depending on their economic situation, however their contribution is often only symbolically. The Sol-Salud-Team and the social workers are regularly involved in awareness raising campaigns and work in the surrounding areas.

The slum children often suffer from deficiency problems as a result of their malnutrition and bad hygiene. They therefore do not develop mentally and physically according to their age and the majority of these children suffer regularly from infectious, viral or bacterial disease.

In the centre Sol de Primavera the children are supplied with a breakfast, a substantial lunch and an afternoon snack. Besides that they have the opportunity to wash their clothes and to shower. The importance of hygiene is emphasised and brushing teeth and washing plates after lunch is an important ritual.
